Food was a big deal in our childhood home, whether it was rissoles, “Sun over Gudhjem” (a traditional open rye sandwich of smoked herring and raw egg) or fine French cuisine.
Our joy of food was formed here, and it has stayed with us all our lives. We will try to pass this on to our restaurant. A place that is homely, hygge and full of personality, is the secret to our approach. Everyone should feel at home, and no one should feel out of place. What will we serve? Only food and drink that we love ourselves.
From beef stew to caviar.
In truth, we want to create the kind of restaurant that we ourselves would love to visit and eat a meal in. A place with excellent food and a great atmosphere – a place not obsessed with the latest fashions in cuisine. There are others who are much better at that sort of thing. We just want to make the sauce taste the way we like it best.
We look forward to finding out if you agree we have succeeded!
C. W. Obels Plads is one of the most charming, hygge-filled squares in Aalborg. You could easily call it Aalborg’s answer to Gråbrødretorv square in Copenhagen. It is a wonderful cobble-stoned square and the Brix Gaard building with its beautiful red timbre framing, is one of the most beautiful of its kind. The restaurant is very hygge and spacious, and can seat around 80 guests. Naturally, here are outdoor spaces that can be used during the summer.
Christen Winther opened a tobacco factory on the site at the end of the 18th century and his factory went on to become the largest of its kind in the Nordic region. Following a fire, the factory was relocated to the industrial district in the west of the city in 1898. The Brdr. Price restaurant is located in the corner of the square – C.W. Obels Plads 16. This used to be where the old factory's tobacco sales department was located and there were also butcher’s stalls around the square itself. Today, the square has opened up and it has a lively atmosphere. An ice rink is set up on the square during the winter, and during the summer the many cafes and restaurants serve customers outside.
